Matching and Chance
Matching conditions and Chance control how Synchra chooses from a list of options. Activity Alerts and Live Notification messages follow the same rules.
Conditions are checked first
Section titled “Conditions are checked first”An option with matching conditions takes priority over a general option when those conditions match. Chance is only compared between options with equally specific matching conditions.
For example, an alert has two options:
- Normal alert: no conditions.
- Large donation alert: donation is at least
100.
For a donation of 150, Large donation alert is used. Its Chance is not compared with Normal alert because the matching condition takes priority.
For a donation of 20, the condition does not match, so Normal alert is used.
Chance decides between ties
Section titled “Chance decides between ties”After conditions are checked, several options may still be tied. Chance divides the available 100% between them.
An option set to 100% is a default, not a guarantee that it will always be chosen. Default options share the chance left after options below 100% are counted.

Two normal alerts and one special alert
Section titled “Two normal alerts and one special alert”Suppose three alert options have the same conditions:
- Thank you: 100%
- Hype: 100%
- Confetti: 25%
Confetti gets 25%. The two normal variants split the remaining 75%, giving them 37.5% each.
Over many matching alerts, about two out of every eight will use Confetti. Thank you and Hype will each appear about three out of eight times.
When every option is below 100%
Section titled “When every option is below 100%”Without a 100% default, the numbers are treated relative to each other and scaled to fill 100%.
- 25% and 75% stay 25% and 75%.
- 25% and 25% become 50% and 50%.
- 20%, 30% and 50% stay 20%, 30% and 50%.

When using a 100% default, keep the combined Chance of special options below 100%. If the special options reach 100% or more, the defaults are not selected and the special options divide the full chance between themselves.
